Packaged Magnesium Anodes
Packaged Magnesium Anodes
Packaged magnesium anodes are a type of anode that offers an easy-to-use and effective solution in cathodic protection systems. These anodes are typically surrounded by a special backfill material, ensuring reliable attachment to the protected metal surface and providing corrosion control. They can be produced according to the TS-9234 standard as AZ-63 or Hi-Pot.
Key Features and Advantages:
- Pre-Packaged: Anodes are usually pre-packaged with environmentally friendly backfill material, making installation and use straightforward.
- Optimal Performance: The packaged form ensures uniform current distribution in the magnesium anode, providing more effective corrosion protection on the protected surface.
- Easy Installation: Ready-to-use packaged anodes can be easily installed on-site, reducing installation time and labor.
- Long-Lasting: The backfill material protects the anode from environmental factors, extending its lifespan.
Applications:
- Pipelines: Widely used to protect underground pipelines from corrosion.
- Storage Tanks: Effective in protecting underground storage tanks.
- Wells and Water Distribution Systems: Used in the protection of well casings and water distribution systems.
- Underground Structures: Commonly chosen for the protection of underground metal structures.
Electrochemical Properties:
- Material: High-purity magnesium or magnesium alloys.
- Backfill Material: Typically consists of bentonite, gypsum, and other special backfill materials.
- Sizes and Shapes: Available in various sizes and shapes, typically packaged in bags or boxes.
- Installation: Anodes are placed in a dug trench and connected to the protected metal surface.

Cable Options
For underground magnesium anodes, at least 5 meters of TS 212-compliant copper wire with a minimum cross-section of 6 mm², multi-stranded, and single-core copper cable is used. The cable can be connected by direct soldering, mechanical connection, or welding to ensure high tensile strength and low connection resistance.
Packaged magnesium anodes by Enkor play a crucial role in cathodic protection systems in terms of efficiency and ease of use. These anodes are designed to provide long-term and reliable protection against corrosion.
